In a retreat, you're often enclosed and hyper-focused. In an (un)retreat™, you're invited to explore more freely. Go at your own pace: fast, slow, or somewhere in between.
This place can serve as your mirror, lab and witness. Dedicated to your experimentation, discernment and growth.
We are your local guides. Choose to participate in planned activities or explore solo.
Pre-retreat: optional conference calls to prepare for the journey
During the retreat: daily meet-ups & group roundtables
Whatsapp group to stay in touch throughout and afterwards
Choose from activities with guidance from locally sourced practitioners. Explore more at Activities.
Located in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, in the foothills of the Himalayas, there are many short treks (with various difficulties and rewarding views) within reach for people who consider themselves moderately fit.
It is required that you have the physical ability to climb a few flights of stairs with relative ease (or at least, slow & steady resolve). The Little Lhasa lifestyle is full of hills and heights.
We can arrange, with the help of luck and timing, an audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama or another high lama.
Given the time of year, it is very possible that HHDL will have public teachings and/or give private audience to those seeking his blessings. Even though HHDL is advanced in years, he is still personally blessing (face-to-face) thousands of visitors.
Dharamshala, aka Dhasa, is a bucketlist destination, still relatively unknown, and a treasure of the Indian and Tibetan communities.
The villages of Mcleod and Dharamkot where the residency program is based, draws people from all walks of life.
Are you...
a seeker
comfortable with being uncomfortable
looking for a soulful experience, not a high-end luxury escape
open to people from different backgrounds and other countries
The first few days focus on establishing the (un)retreat rhythm, introducing Dharamshala and purposeful service.
Option A: In a three-day course with Venerable Wangdu, the cohort will learn secular Buddhist perspectives at Tushita.
Option B: Full or multi-day activities, workshops, tours.
Our approach encourages each cohort member to see this not as an end but as a new beginning, a conscious return to their daily lives with new learnings or perspectives.
